Semi-regular musings of a ‘puter guy/sports “fan”

OK, so I think I've got this thing started now. We'll see how it goes. I don't think many will read but you never know. Gotta start somewhere. I think I have the theme and layout down ok (any comments from random readers out there are most certainly welcome). I'm sure eventually I will get the hang of all this stuff (permalinks and the like) but bear/bare with me for a little bit.

I'm sure someone would eventually ask this question so I'll answer it now. "Why am I doing this?". Well, to be honest, I saw a post at Fox Sports about a "Next Great Sportswriter" contest and I was intrigued. Contestants build a blog and post articles and a panel of judges chooses 16 blogs for the finals and the winner gets a position writing for Fox Sports Online.  Kinda "Idol-ish".  Well, the contest is halfway over already so I don't think there is any use jumping in now but I might as well start a blog and work on my bloggin' "skills" and maybe, just maybe, they'll have another contest later in the summer. The finals of the first NGS contest (this is the second time they've done this) coincided with the football playoffs and the current NGS is going to coincide the finals with the NBA Finals. So I'm hoping that they do another that coincides with the World Series or something. Basketball is really not my forte, baseball is a little more up my alley (although I'm sure that the folks over at USSM might disagree). So that's why I'm here…practice. However, I do undertand that they may not have another contest or I might miss the announcement or something. So I'll just continue on, contest or no contest. I think I have interesting things to say…occassionally. Anyway, happy reading.
